CARING FOR YOUR LODGERS

Storage

The best way to maintain the shape of your Lodger shoes for many years to come is to use the included shoe trees. We think this is the most important part of looking after your shoes, and is the reason we include custom shoe trees as standard.

Using the shoe bags will help keep the shoes clean and dust free, while allowing the leather to breath.

If your shoes are wet, use newspaper to fill the toes and store the shoes on their sides. The newspaper will allow air to circulate and help to absorb moisture. After a day or so, when the shoes are mostly dry, return the original shoe trees to help maintain the original shape. Avoid putting a wet shoe near a fire or radiator. The rapid drying will damage the leather. Once the shoe is completely dry, give it a good polish to help get wax and nutrients back into the leather.

Cleaning

A regular, quick clean of your Lodger shoes after every wear is an easy way to keep them looking good. A brief brushing at the end of each day will take care of most of the bits of dirt and grime that build up between polishing.

Your shoes will appreciate a polish every couple weeks, or weekly if you wear them frequently. Use a polish as close to the original colour of the leather as possible. Lodger sells both polish wax and crème. Both come from a small French company and are the finest we've seen.

The wax is made from bees wax and carnauba wax and both waterproofs and protects your shoe leather. Wax should be used for regular cleaning and polishing. The crème has a higher amount of pigment and nutrients and can be thought of as face crème for your shoes. Crème should be used occasionally to touch up the colour and revitalize the leather.

We strongly advice our customers who buy shoes from our Italian collection to use the clear polish (sold online or at our shop on Clifford Street) as each shoe has been carefully hand painted.

If you have any further questions please contact one of our Lodger representatives who will be delighted to advise you on how to care for your Lodgers.

Repairs

At Lodger, we love to repair worn out shoes. Our footwear can be resoled many times and should give you many years of service. In fact, many of our shoes are only starting to get broken in by the time they are ready for their second sole.

When returned to us for rebuilding, we remove the sole (and welt for the English shoes) and rebuild the entire shoe using the original last. Please contact us for a quote at info@lodgerfootwear.com or +44 (0) 207 287 5455.
