Jodphur Boot
Overview What Comes With It

Overview

At Lodger, we are always looking for something new and we love a new version of a classic design. Our shoe of the Month for February is a re-interpretation of the traditional Jodphur boot.

The ankle high riding boot owes its origins to overheated British polo players in India looking for slightly cooler alternatives to the knee-high riding boot. Although the term now incorporates other ankle boot styles, the Jodphur originally referred to a boot fastened with a two part strap and buckle wrapping around the ankle. This was better for securing the wearer's cuff of his or her riding breeches that were tucked into the boot.

A traditional Jodphur pattern stitches the vamp down on top of the quarters and has the strap and buckle attached to the vamp and crossing behind the ankle. We've turned that on its head and overlaid the quarters on top of the vamp in the style of a chukka boot while the strap and buckle are highlighted in contrast leather crisscrossing over the cone.

Our popular chocolate suede shows off the contemporary profile of our 12221 last and, paired with a natural sole edge and contrast straps, makes this a boot for Spring. We haven't wholly forgotten the boot's equestrian roots, seen through the incorporation of a brass buckle that is traditionally used in saddlery.
